We train veterans and military spouses to become software engineers. Free. No tuition, no income share, no debt.

Vets Who Code is a veteran-led 501(c)(3). Since 2014 we've trained 300+ veterans who have generated over $20M in collective earnings. Every instructor is a veteran, a working engineer, and one of our own alumni — the person teaching you has already walked the path from separation papers to a paid engineering job.

What we actually build

Our accelerator runs on The Hashflag Method, our curriculum methodology. Four mechanisms:

• Market anchoring — every unit traces to verified labor-market demand (Lightcast job-posting data, not instructor preference). Content that stops appearing in postings gets cut.
• The Hashflag Graph — the curriculum is a prerequisite knowledge graph, not a syllabus: v2.3, 304 nodes, 442 edges, 33 units, validated as a DAG. Nothing is taught before its prerequisites resolve, and there are no circular dependencies in the sequence.
• Gradual Release of Responsibility — instructor models it, cohort builds it together, member ships it alone. Support is withdrawn on a schedule, so independence is engineered rather than hoped for.
• Artifact evidence gates — members advance on shipped, working artifacts. Not seat time. Not attendance.

The path runs frontend → data layer → backend → AI, with DSA as a continuous thread. The AI track is core, not a survey week: RAG, agent architectures, production AI APIs, and Harness Engineering against local models (OpenCode + CodeGemma 2B) so members learn how AI systems are wired, evaluated, and governed in production.

We charge nothing, so every cohort is funded by people who believe veterans belong in this industry. Sponsorship keeps the lights on for the things that make the training work:
