Description

After installing jupyter-ai-jupyternaut no cell output works, with jupyter-ai no such problems.

Reproduce

@banderlog Thanks for reporting this issue.

JupyterLab v4.6 requires jupyter_collaboration>=5.0.0a0 (related to #1629). Also, generally, you should install Jupyternaut using the optional jupyternaut dependency group, which declares the correct range (v0.1.0b0 is required for Jupyter AI v3.1).

pip install 'jupyter_collaboration>=5.0.0a0' 'jupyter_ai[jupyternaut]~=3.1' 

We were hoping that the Jupyter Collaboration v5 release would be complete, but until it is, we need to update our documentation to include this step. I will work on that.

Another thing to try: After #1629 is fixed for good, we will publish a Jupyter AI patch release that fixes support with JupyterLab <4.6. If you don't want to install the v5 alpha pre-release of jupyter_collaboration, you can downgrade to JupyterLab <4.6.

Sorry for the confusion, we're taking steps to stabilize this by the end of the week.
